【摘要】:Thisguideisintendedtoillustratethefabricationofultrasonicreferenceblocksthatarerepresentativeoftheproductionmaterialtobeexamined.Careinmaterialselectionandfabricationcanresultinthemanufactureofreferenceblocksthatareultrasonicallysimilartotheproductionmaterialthuseliminatingthereferenceblockasanexaminationvariable.1.1Thisguidecoversgeneralproceduresforthematerialselectionandfabricationofreferenceblocksmadeofmetalormetalalloysandintendedtobeusedfortheexaminationofthesameorsimilarproductionmaterialsbypulsedlongitudinalultrasonicwavesappliedperpendiculartothebeamentrysurface.Primaryemphasisisonsolidmaterialsbutsomeofthetechniquesdescribedmaybeusedformidwallexaminationofpipesandtubesofheavywallthickness.Near-surfaceresolutioninanymaterialdependsuponthecharacteristicsoftheinstrumentandsearchunitemployed.1.2Thisguidecoversthefabricationofreferenceblocksforusewitheithertheimmersionorthecontactmethodofultrasonicexamination.1.3Referenceblocksfabricatedinaccordancewiththisguidecanbeusedtodetermineproperultrasonicsystemoperation.Area-amplitudeanddistance-amplitudecurvescanalsobedeterminedwiththesereferenceblocks.1.4Thisguidedoesnotspecifyreferencereflectorsizesorproductrejectionlimits.Itdoesdescribetypicalindustryfabricationpracticesandcommonlyappliedtoleranceswheretheylendclaritytotheguide.Inallcasesofconflictbetweenthisguideandcustomerspecifications,thecustomerspecificationshallprevail.1.5Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.ThevaluesgiveninparenthesesaremathematicalconversionstoSIunitsthatareprovidedforinformationonlyandarenotconsideredstandard.1.6Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesandtodeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
